CHESTER, Pa. – On Tuesday evening, the Messiah University men's soccer team defeated the Pride of Widener University, 3-0. After some early chances, the Falcons got on the board in the 31st minute with a
Patrick Lee goal. The Falcons added to their lead in the 65th minute with a
Sam Phillips goal. The Falcons added another goal to put the cherry on top of their 3-0 win with Lee scoring his second from
Davis Pagett.
Adam Carter was a brick wall all night in goal for the Falcons making five saves to keep the Pride off the board.
Up next, the Falcons return to Shoemaker Field for the regular season finale against the Lions of Albright College on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 5:00 p.m.
First Half
The Falcons opened the game looking for an early score with a
Patrick Lee shot on goal, but the Widener goalkeeper made the save to keep the game scoreless. The Pride got the next two shots on goal, but
Adam Carter made two saves to keep the Pride off the board. After the second Carter save, the Falcons looked to get back on the attack.
Josh Bratager sent a long ball to
Kyle Spodnik near the right side of the box. Spodnik quickly passed the ball to
Patrick Lee just inside the top of the box and Lee sent a one-timer that went into the top-left corner of the goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. The Falcons got two shots on goal from
Kyle Spodnik and another from
Ekow Yankah, but each shot was saved by the Widener goalkeeper to keep the score at 1-0 at the break.
Second Half
The second half started with some back-and-forth play with each team getting one shot on goal in the first 19 minutes. The Falcons though looked to add to their lead in the 65th minute. The Pride looked to get out their defensive zone, but an errant pass forced the Pride goalkeeper to try and play a ball way out of the box. On his pass attempt,
Sam Phillips got in the way of the pass and after knocking it down sent a shot into the open goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Falcons added another goal in the 82nd minute with
Patrick Lee scoring his second of the game from
Kyle Spodnik to put the cherry on top of the Falcons 3-0 win.

Josh Bratager also added an assist. The Falcons totaled 21 shots with 11 shots on goal. The Pride totaled 11 shots with five shots on goal. The Falcons earned nine corner kicks to the Pride three.
Adam Carter earned the win in goal for the Falcons and made five saves.
