GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Tuesday evening, the top-seeded Messiah University men's soccer team defeated the fourth-seeded Golden Wolves of Alvernia University, 4-0 in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals. The Falcons got on the attack early with a
Davis Pagett goal from
Josh Bratager to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. The Falcons added another goal before the break with a Alvernia own goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Falcons continued to push on the offense end and
Davis Pagett added his second goal to give the Falcons a commanding 3-0 lead in the 59th minute.
Grant Shreiner put the stamp on the Falcons 4-0 win with a goal in the 69th minute.
Up next, the Falcons host the second-seeded Spartans of York College for the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3:00 p.m.
First Half
After chances from both teams the Falcons looked to break the scoreless tie in the 14th minute. After a failed clear attempt by the Golden Wolves defense,
Davis Pagett gathered the ball just five yards from the box. Pagett sent a pass into the top of the box to
Josh Bratager. Bratager then gave the ball back to Pagett inside the box, and Pagett poked the ball past a sliding Alvernia goalkeeper to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons looked to add to their lead with shots on goal from
Grant Shreiner and
Kyle Spodnik, but each shot was saved by the Alvernia goalkeeper. The Golden Wolves looked to tie the game in the 30th minute. An Alvernia forward got a great shot on goal, but
Matt Griffin got in the way of the shot to prevent the Golden Wolves from tying the game. The Falcons continued to try to find their second goal in the 35th minute. The Falcons sent a ball inside of the box to
Grant Shreiner, but the Golden Wolves defender hit the ball up and into the top-left corner to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead at the break.
Second Half
The Falcons opened the second half looked to keep their feet on the gas.
Patrick Lee and
Davis Pagett combined this time for a give and go. Pagett drilled the shot from just inside the box into the right-side of the goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. The Falcons added another goal in the 69th minute from
Grant Shreiner to give the Falcons a commanding 4-0 lead.
Adam Carter made a couple of saves to close out the final 31 minutes to give the Falcons the 4-0 win.

Davis Pagett led the Falcons with two goals.
Grant Shreiner also added a goal.
Josh Bratager and
Patrick Lee each tallied an assist. The Falcons tallied 20 shots with seven shots on goal. Alvernia tallied 11 shots with five shots on goal. The Falcons tallied five corner kicks, and the Golden Wolves tallied three.
Adam Carter earned the win in goal for the Falcons and made four saves.
