Final Relay Race Pushes Men’s Swimming Past River Hawks

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's swimming team earned the gold in the final relay race to defeat the River Hawks of Susquehanna University, 103-95. The Falcons earned 12 individual top three finishes with six gold medals. The Falcons finished second and third in the 400 medley relay and capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Scranton, Pa. to take part in the three-day Electric City Invitational that starts on Friday, Nov. 22.

How It Happened
The Falcons opened the dual strong with a second and third-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Mitch DiFante, Nathan Book, Dylan Yellets, and Ben Clarke finished in second with a time of 3:55.01. The team of Connor Fleming, Will Russell, Brayden Trout, and Sebastian Martinez touched the wall third with a time of 4:02.71.
 
The Falcons opened the individual events with a first-place finish in the 1000 free from PJ Cronauer with a time of 10:25.89. Cronauer also added a gold medal in the 100 fly with a time of 55.94.
 
In the next event, Sage Sobek added a first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.93. Sobek also added a gold in the 100 free with a time of 49.74.
 
The Falcons then earned the silver in the 50 free with Nathan Book swimming a time of 23.20. Book also earned the gold in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.00.
 
The Falcons then finished second and third in the 400 IM. Will Russell finished second with a time of 4:47.54 and Dylan Yellets earned the bronze with a time of 4:48.44. Yellets also earned a bronze in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.56.
 
Brayden Trout also added a third-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 57.90.
 
Logan Radell added a gold medal in the 500 free with a time of 5:24.81 and Connor Fleming came in second in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.31.
 
With the score entering the final relay at 92-89 with the Falcons in the lead, the Falcons needed to earn the gold in the event with Susquehanna racing two teams to Messiah's one team. The team of Brayden Trout, Logan Radell, PJ Cronauer, and Sage Sobek earned the win by three seconds with a time of 3:24.21 to seal the win for the Falcons.
