Women’s Swimming Splits Double-Dual Against Spartans and Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University women's swimming team split a double-dual against the Mustangs of Stevenson University and the Spartans of York College. The Falcons defeated the Mustangs, 178-71, but the Falcons fell to York in a close battle, 129-123. The Falcons earned 19 individual medals, with four first-place finishes. The Falcons finished second and third in the 200 medley relay and then to cap off the meet finished first and second in the 200 free relay.
 
Up next, the Falcons return home to take on the Cougars of Misericordia University on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1:00 p.m.

How It Happened
The Falcons opened the double-dual with a second and third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Grace Schad, Lauren Cotton, Erin Goudie, and Lauren Mock finished in second with a time of 1:56.10, just missing out on first place by .64 of a second. The team of Maddy Price, Madelyn Frey, Kendal Wilson, and Kari Mindrebo finished in third with a time of 1:59.58.
 
The Falcons started the individual races strong with a first and third-place finish in the 1000 free. Kylie Wilkinson earned the gold with a time of 11:32.24 and Kari Mindrebo touched the wall third with a time of 11:56.57. Wilkinson and Mindrebo both earned top three finishes in the 100 free with Wilkinson finishing in second with a time of 58.41 and Mindrebo earning the bronze with a time of 58.57.
 
In the next event, the Falcons earned the silver and the bronze in the 200 free. Grace Schad finished in second with a time of 2:06.65 and Kendal Wilson finished in third with a time of 2:07.61. Schad added a gold medal in the 200 back with a time of 2:19.01
 
The Falcons continued their strong start with a second and third-place finish in the 100 back. Maddy Price earned the silver with a time of 1:07.06 and Kendal Wilson finished in third with a time of 1:07.94.
 
The Falcons earned their third-straight silver and bronze in the 100 breast. Lauren Cotton finished in second with a time of 1:11.30 and Makayla Yellets came in third with a time of 1:14.94. Cotton added another silver in the 200 breast with a time of 2:37.84 and Yellets earned the bronze in the 200 breast with a time of 2:43.55.
 
The Falcons added a third-place finish in the next race with Keelie Conaway swimming a time of 2:29.13.
 
In the next event, Madelyn Frey earned the gold in the 50 free with a time of 26.37. Frey also added a silver medal in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.49.
 
Lauren Mock added a third-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:48.21.
 
The Falcons added their final gold in the individual events with Erin Goudie touching the wall first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.30.
 
In the final individual event, Lexi Lovern finished in third with a time 2:28.04.
 
The Falcons earned a gold and silver in the 200 yard free relay. The team of Madelyn Frey, Kendal Wilson, Lauren Mock, Grace Schad with a time 1:46.69. The team of Erin Goudie, Mattie Brummer, Kari Mindrebo, and Kylie Wilkinson finished in second with a time of 1:48.03.
