Men’s Soccer Drops Neutral Site Game Against No. 17 Hornets

HARRISONBURG, Va. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University men's soccer team fell to the seventeenth-ranked Hornets of the University of Lynchburg, 5-1. The Falcons got on the board early with a goal from Patrick Lee in the sixth minute. The Hornets scored two goals in the final six minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the break. The Hornets added three more goals in the second half to earn the 5-1 win.
 
Up next, the Falcons travels to St. Davids, Pa. to take on the Eagles of Eastern University on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4:00 p.m.
 
First Half
The Falcons got on the board early with a Patrick Lee goal in the sixth minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons got another early opportunity on a Lee shot on goal, but the Hornets' goalkeeper made the save to keep the score at 1-0. After some back-and-forth play, the Hornets got a shot on goal in the 36th minute, but Kessler Forrest made the save and kept the Falcons one-goal lead. Quickly after the save, the Falcons got a shot on goal from Owen Resch, but his shot was saved, and the score remained 1-0. After a foul in the box, the Hornets tied the game in the 40th minute on a penalty kick. The Hornets then scored again just less than three minutes later to take a 2-1 lead in the half.
 
Second Half
The Hornets kept the momentum going and scored less than two minutes into the second half to take a 3-1 lead. The Hornets added two more goals the rest of the way to earn the 5-1 win.
 
Stats
Patrick Lee scored the lone goal for the Falcons. The Falcons totaled seven shots with three shots on goal. The Hornets tallied 16 shots with nine shots on goal. The Hornets earned two corner kicks to the Falcons one. Kessler Forrest earned the start in goal for the Falcons and made four saves.
