Women’s Swimming Finishes in Second in Day One of Spartan Splash Invitational

YORK, Pa. – On Friday evening, the Messiah University women's swimming team finished day one of the Spartan Splash Invitational in second with 219 points. The Falcons only trail the Spartans of York College by four points after day one. The Falcons lead the third-place team of Arcadia University by 67 points.  
 
Up next, the Falcons compete in day two of the Spartan Splash Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 21. Preliminary races start at 11:00 a.m. with finals races starting at 6:00 p.m.
 
The Falcons opened the invitational strong with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of Grace Schad, Kendal Wilson, Rachel Sobkowiak, and Kari Mindrebo earned the silver with a time of 1:40.04. The Falcons added a 10th place finish with the team of Elina Del Castillo, Ava Smith, Makayla Yellets, and Meredith Westcott finishing in the 10th with a time of 1:50.37.
 
In the next event, Lauren Edge touched the wall third in the 500 free with a time of 5:19.94. Keelie Conaway added a seventh-place finish with a time of 5:32.16 and Samantha Pennell finished in ninth with a time of 5:35.84.
 
The Falcons tallied two medals in the 200 IM. Madelyn Frey finished in second with a time of 2:12.86 and Grace Schad earned the bronze with a time of 2:13.26. The Falcons added two more top ten finishes with Lexi Lovern coming in sixth with a time of 2:20.90 and Maddy Price finishing in eighth with a time of 2:25.13.
 
The Falcons then added three more top 10 finishes in the 50 free. Kari Mindrebo touched the wall fourth with a time of 25.32, Rachel Sobkowiak finished fifth with a time of 25.62, and Kendal Wilson came in seventh with a time of 25.84.
 
The Falcons capped off day one with a bronze medal in the 400 medley relay. The team of Maddy Price, Madelyn Frey, Rachel Sobkowiak, and Lauren Edge touched the wall third with a time of 4:13.56.
