Women’s Swimming Jumps to First Place After Day Two of Spartan Splash Invitational

York, Pa. – On Saturday evening, the Messiah University women's swim team jumped to first place after day two of the Spartan Splash Invitational. The Falcons have totaled 537 points after two days of swimming. The Falcons lead the Spartans of York College by 64 points after trailing the Spartans by four points after day one.
 
Up next, the Falcons compete in the final day of the Spartan Splash Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 23 with the preliminary races starting at 9:00 a.m. and the finals races starting at 4:00 p.m.
 
How It Happened
The Falcons opened day two of the Spartan Splash Invitational with a gold medal in the 200 medley relay. The team of Grace Schad, Madelyn Frey, Rachel Sobkowiak, and Lauren Edge touched the wall first with a time of 1:49.11. The Falcons also added an eighth-place finish with the team of Maddy Price, Makayla Yellets, Abby Caltrider, and Kendal Wilson finishing in eighth with a time of 1:55.36.
 
Messiah then opened the individual events with a bronze in the 400 IM. Samantha Pennell touched the wall third with a time of 4:59.48. Elina Del Castillo (5:17.09) and Ava Gower (5:24.00) both added top 10 finishes.
 
The Falcons continued their strong start to day two with a bronze and two other top 10 finishes in the 100 fly. Abby Caltrider touched the third with a time of 1:02.44. Makayla Yellets finished in fifth with a time of 1:03.20 and Rachel Sobkowiak came in seventh with a time of 1:03.54.
 
The Falcons earned their first gold in the individual races in the 200 free with Lauren Edge finishing with a time of 1:56.62. Kari Mindrebo added a fourth-place finish (1:59.88) and Meredith Westcott earned an eighth-place finish (2:06.85).
 
The Falcons continued their great day in the pool with a second and third place finish in the 100 breast. Madelyn Frey earned the silver with a time of 1:07.96 and Lexi Lovern touched the wall third with a time of 1:09.54. Makayla Yellets added a ninth-place finish with a time of 1:11.36.
 
Grace Schad earned the gold in the 100 back with a time of 59.18. The Falcons added three other top 10 finishes with Meredith Westcott coming in sixth with a time of 1:04.44, Maddy Price finishing in seventh with a time of 1:05.42, and Kendal Wilson coming in 10th with a time of 1:05.86.
 
The Falcons ended day two with a silver in the 800 free relay. The team of Grace Schad, Meredith Westcott, Kari Mindrebo, and Lauren Edge finished in second with a time of 8:10.67.
