DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Messiah University Wrestling team was in action Friday night for a dual against the Delaware Valley Aggies. The Falcons earned the 48-6 win, picking up two falls, three technical falls, two decisions, and three forfeits. Highlighting the efforts was a fall from
Dalton Monger at 149 lbs. in 0:26 and a 16-0 technical fall from
Tucker Seidel at 197 lbs. in 2:03.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 12:30 p.m. when they travel to McDaniel College for duals against McDaniel and Shenandoah University.
Dual Action on the Mats
Scoring action for the night began at 125 lbs. between
Austin Jeffrey and Ethan Liptzin. The pair tangled looking for control before Liptzin earned control and took a 6-0 lead. Liptzin earned the win via fall in 1:23 to give Delaware Valley the 6-0 lead.
At 133 lbs.
Chris Brooks earned the win via forfeit before
Matthew Casey earned a win at 141 lbs. also via forfeit, giving Messiah a 12-6 lead.
Dalton Monger earned an early takedown at 149 lbs. against Carlos Panchana before earning the fall in 0:26.
Corbin Hutchison earned a fall at 157 lbs. via forfeit.
Keegan Demarest earned a quick takedown at 165 lbs. against Luke Moore before letting Moore loose and continuing to wrestle. Demarest earned a takedown on the edge of the circle before the pair were moved back to the middle. Out of the reset, Moore looked to escape but Demarest maintained control. Demarest was able to flip Moore to earn a three count nearfall before an escape for Moore was immediately followed by a takedown for Demarest to bring the score to 12-2. Demarest earned a pair of nearfall points to lead 14-2 after the first period. Demarest earned a takedown to secure the 17-2 technical fall in 4:06.
Drew Kozubal faced Quincy Myer at 174 lbs. in the next bout as the Falcons held a 29-6 lead. It looked like Myer would be the first to strike but Kozubal was able to counter and earn the takedown and take control of the match. Myer earned the escape late in the first to bring the score to 3-1 in favor of Kozubal, who chose to start bottom for period two. Myer was in control until Kozubal was able to earn a reverse and claim a quick to follow fall at 4:16.
At 184 lbs.
Nate Kovalcik faced Quincy Risper. Kovalcik earned the first points of the match with a takedown just shy of a minute in. After the pair wrestled out of bounds, Kovalcik let Risper out and opted to start neutral. Kovalcik earned a quick takedown and let Risper out to take a 6-2 lead. A takedown gave Kovalcik a 9-2 lead into the second period. Kovalcik used a pair of takedowns and nearfall points to earn the 19-3 technical fall in 3:55.
Tucker Seidel faced Neil Miller at 197 lbs. and was quick to work on the mats. Seidel earned a takedown just nine seconds in. Miller fought for an escape, but Seidel was able to keep his control. Seidel earned his first set of four nearfall points around a minute in before continuing to flip Miller for nearfall points to earn the 16-0 technical fall in 2:03.
Kaleb Britting and Nathanael Obrzut were scoreless at 285 lbs. before Obrzut looked to have an opportunity with a minute remaining in the first period, but no control was called and the pair were scoreless after the first period. Obrzut started down and looked for an opportunity to escape. Britting was able to maintain his top position for the opening of the second period before Obrzut earned the escape to take a 1-0 lead that he would take into the final period. Britting chose to start down for the third period and earned a quick escape. Obrzut looked to take a shot, but Britting used quick feet to earn the takedown before an escape from Obrzut brought the score to 4-2 in favor of Britting with just over a minute remaining. Britting was able to earn a takedown with 10 seconds remaining and a riding time point gave him the 8-2 decision and secured the Falcons the 48-6 win.
Exhibition Matches
In an exhibition to open the night at 285 lbs.,
Elijah Farr and Maximus Gordon remained scoreless after the first period. Farr chose to start down and looked to make a quick escape, but the pair ended up out of bounds and back to their starting position. Gordon maintained the top position before a reversal late in the period gave Farr the 2-0 lead with one period remaining. With two minutes remaining, Gordon took neutral, looking for a takedown. The pair remained neutral and Farr earned the 2-1 win after a stall point was awarded to Gordon.
At the end of the night,
Elijah Farr returned to the mats at 285 lbs. against Maen Alfin. Alfin jumped to a quick 8-2 lead after the first period. Alfin took a 12-2 lead following a takedown and stall point. Farr earned an escape to bring the score to 12-3 with one period remaining. Farr chose to start bottom for period three and earned the escape before getting a takedown with 0:30 remaining. Alfin took the win via 12-7 decision.
