Seniors Break 800 Free Relay Record, Men's Swimming Fall to Cougars

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah men's swimming team dropped their final dual-meet of the 2024-25 season to Misericordia, 123-78. The Falcons though capped off the meet with a thrilling time trial, where the senior relay team of Ben Clarke, Mitch DiFante, PJ Cronauer, and Sage Sobek broke the Messiah pool record in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:38.15. The Falcons earned nine medals in the individual races, including five gold medals. Messiah also added a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay and another second place finish in the 200 free relay.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to York, Pa. for the four-day MAC Championships starting on Thursday, Feb. 13.

How It Happened
Messiah opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Dylan Yellets, Will Russell, Ben Clarke, and Nathan Book finished second with a time of 1:47.96.
 
The Falcons opened the individual events strong with a first and third-place finish in the 1000 free. PJ Cronauer finished in first with a time of 10:32.54 and Logan Radell finished in third with a time of 11:03.14. Cronauer added a gold medal in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.37. Radell also finished in third in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.26.
 
In the next event, Sage Sobek earned the gold in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.04. Sobek also touched the wall in first in the 100 free with a time of 49.38.
 
The Falcons added a bronze in the 200 IM with Will Russell finishing with a time of 2:14.58.
 
Connor Fleming added a third-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.22.
 
In the final individual event, Nathan Book earned the gold in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.03.
 
The Falcons earned a silver in the 200 free relay in the final event of the meet. The team of Nathan Book, Logan Radell, PJ Cronauer, and Sage Sobek came in second with a time of 1:35.19.
 
After the meet, the Falcons seniors wanted to attempt to break the 800 free relay pool record. The team of Ben Clarke, Mitch DiFante, PJ Cronauer, and Sage Sobek finished with a time of 7:38.15 beating the previous pool record of 7:39.93 set in 2021.
