GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah Wrestling team took down the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College on Friday, Feb. 14 with a team score of 32-14.
Dalton Monger (149 lbs.) earned the fall with
Shaun Quirk (141 lbs.) earning a technical fall.
The Falcons return to the mats on Saturday, Feb. 15, when they take on The College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m. in Ewing, N.J. for the final dual of the season ahead of the NCAA Region III Regional.
Action on the Mats
At 125 lbs.,
Bryce Arnold won via forfeit.
Wrestling at 133 lbs.,
Caiden Heller was defeated by Corey Cope via 7-4 decision. Cope earned a first period takedown before a scoreless second. Cope opened the third with a takedown before Heller countered with an escape and takedown with seconds remaining. Cope added a riding time point for the 7-4 decision.
Shaun Quirk earned the 20-5 technical fall in 6:32 over Owen Heffner after a dominant performance. Quirk led 6-1 after a pair of first period takedowns. He added five with a reversal and takedown in period two. A trio of takedowns in the third period gave Quirk the 20-5 technical fall.
Dalton Monger took a quick lead at 157 lbs. with a takedown and four count nearfall to open the first period against Braden Scott. Monger was able to earn the first period fall in 0:56.
At 157 lbs.,
Noah Rice earned a 12-3 major decision over Michael Beers. Rice had a 3-0 lead after a first-period takedown. He added two in the second before earning two takedowns and a riding time point in the third to earn the 12-3 major decision.
Keegan Demarest earned a 13-3 major decision over Justice Hockenberry-Folk in the 165 lbs. weight class. Demarest had a first period takedown and added a second in the second period, holding a 6-1 lead with two minutes remaining. Demarest used two third period takedowns and a riding time point to finish 13-3.
Austin Brass earned the 17-3 major decision at 174 lbs. over Gavin Fehr. Brass held a 9-3 advantage after three first-period takedowns. He added an escape and takedown in the second to extend his lead to 13-3. In the final period, Brass started on top and maintained control through the period. He earned three nearfall points as the clock wound down and added a riding time point for the 17-3 major decision.
In a highly contested match-up at 184 lbs.,
Ryder Slayton earned the sudden victory over Ganon Smith. After back-and-forth action, Slayton earned a point out of an escape before both competitors were called for action as the referee prompted more action out of the pair. Smith took a 2-1 lead after a reversal in the third that Slayton quickly escaped from to notch the score 2-2. In overtime, it took 1:10 of the two-minute period for Slayton to secure a takedown and earn the sudden victory.
Sawyer Dereszysnki dropped his bout at 197 lbs. against Will Davis via 18-1 technical fall in 3:25. Davis led 10-1 after the first before adding an escape, takedown and four nearfall points to earn the technical fall.
In the final bout of the night, Ksawery Niewiadomy defeated
Isaiah Durham at 285 lbs. Â via fall in 4:06 after leading 3-1.
