Women’s Swimming Dominates in Sweep over Mustangs and Falcons

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University used a dominant overall effort to defeat the Mustangs of Stevenson University and the Falcons of Cedar Crest. The Falcons defeated the Mustangs, 210.50-47.50 and the Falcons by a score on 230-21. The Falcons opened the meet with a first and second place finish in the 400 medley relay and finished second and third in the 200 free relay to cap off the meet. Madelyn Frey led the Falcons with three gold medals. Keelie Conaway and Grace Schad each totaled two first place finishes. Abby Caltrider, Kari Mindrebo, Maddy Price, Rachel Sobkowiak, and Makayla Yellets each added a first-place finish.
 
Up next, the Falcons compete in the four-day MAC Championships starting on Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Graham Aquatics Center in York, Pa.

How It Happened
The Falcons opened the triple-dual with a first and second place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Kari Mindrebo, Lexi Lovern, Madelyn Frey, and Grace Schad touched the wall first with a time of 4:15.00. The team of Maddy Price, Elina Del Castillo, Makayla Yellets, and Abby Caltrider finished in second with a time of 4:34.07.
 
The Falcons opened the individual races with a gold and silver medal in the 1000 free. Keelie Conaway touched the wall first with a time of 11:37.58 and Samantha Pennell finished second with a time of 11:51.74. Conaway added a gold in the 500 free (5:40.90) and a silver medal in the 200 fly with a time of 2:29.87. Pennell also finished third in the 500 free with a time of 5:44.67.
 
In the next event, the Falcons earned the sweep in the 200 free. Grace Schad earned the gold with a time of 2:03.81, Kari Mindrebo finished second with a time of 2:07.17, and Elizabeth Chorba touched the wall third with a time of 2:07.65. Schad also finished first in the 100 free (56.43) and second in the 200 IM (2:18.33). Mindrebo added a gold in the 100 back (1:03.36) and a silver in the 50 free (27.10). Chorba finished second in the 100 free (57.66) and third in the 200 breast (2:49.50).
 
The Falcons added two more medals in the 100 back with a second-place finish from Meredith Westcott with a time of 1:07.15 and Maddy Price finishing in third with a time of 1:07.77. Price also added a gold in the 200 back (2:23.61) and bronze in the 200 IM (2:27.04).
 
In the 100 breast, the Falcons earned a first and second place finish. Madelyn Frey finished first with a time of 1:12.68 and Lexi Lovern finished second with a time of 1:14.50. Frey also finished first in the 200 breast (2:38.47) and the 200 IM (2:18.17). Lovern also finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:07.41.
 
The Falcons added a gold medal in the 200 fly with Makayla Yellets finishing with a time of 2:29.34. Yellets also finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:42.44.
 
The Falcons added a first and third place finish in the 50 free. Rachel Sobkowiak finished first with a time of 26.92 and Kendal Wilson touched the wall third with a time of 27.64. Sobkowiak also finished third in the 100 free (59.58) and third in the 100 fly (1:07.65).
 
Abby Caltrider added a gold medal in the 100 fly with a time of 1:05.75.
 
The Falcons capped off the triple-dual with a second and third place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of Hailey Fegan, Abby Caltrider, Rachel Sobkowiak, and Kendal Wilson touched the wall second with a time of 1:49.99. The team of Elizabeth Chorba, Ava Gower, Lexi Lovern, and Makayla Yellets finished third with a time of 1:53.49.
