POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the twenty-fifth ranked Messiah University men's soccer team used an early goal from
Sam Phillips to defeat the Brewers of Vassar College, 1-0. The Falcons jumped to an early lead with a

Kyle Spodnik in the 17th minute. Neither team got a shot on goal in the final 28 minutes to hold the Falcons lead to 1-0 at the half. The Falcons defense allowed one shot on goal in the second half, that
Killian O'Reilly saved to give the Falcons the 1-0 shutout win.

First Half
The Brewers looked for an early chance to take the lead in the 11th minute with a shot on goal, but
Killian O'Reilly made a save to keep the game scoreless. The Falcons offense then looked to break the scoreless tie in the 17th minute. After a Vassar turnover in the midfield, the Falcons looked to counter.

Kyle Spodnik played a one-two, and
Sam Phillips sent a shot, past the Brewers keeper, into the back of the goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Neither team added a shot on goal for the remaining 28 minutes to hold the Falcons lead to 1-0 at the break.
Second Half
The Falcons looked to add to their lead early in the second half with a shot on goal from
Caleb Daniels, but the shot was saved to hold the Falcons lead to one in the 50th minute. The Brewers looked for a chance to tie the game in the 77th minute with a shot on goal, but
Killian O'Reilly made a diving save to keep the Falcons ahead, 1-0. The Falcons did not allow another shot on goal the rest of the way to earn the 1-0 win.
