A 2003 Messiah graduate, Vogel was a 3x All American for the Falcons and is a member of the Messiah Athletics Hall of Honor. As a competitor, he set the standard with 157 wins and the all time records in takedowns and near falls at the time of his graduation. Additionally, in March 2013, Vogel was named a member of the MAC 100 Century Team, recognizing some of the top student-athletes to compete in the MAC over the last 100 years.
Vogel’s impressive resume in no way stops with his competitive career. He got started in coaching at Wheaton College where he served as a full time assistant coach for several years before being named head wrestling coach at Gettysburg College in 2007. In 13 years at the helm of Gettysburg Wrestling, he coached three All Americans, 10 NCAA Qualifiers, and 19 Scholar All Americans. In 2020, Vogel moved to Hiram College to resurrect the newly reinstated wrestling team as their head coach and spent four years in that position.
Vogel earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from Messiah College in May 2003, and his master's degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. in May 2016. His wife Janet Vogel ’03 is the director of Murray Library on Messiah’s campus.
