Falcons Heat Up Blazers For 10th Straight Win

Frederick, MD - Messiah College had a quite a night on Tuesday at Hood College, sweeping their new conference foes to both clinch a playoff spot and push their win streak to 10 games.

The Falcons (20-7, 7-1) set the tone early in the opener and took the first set 25-7 over the Blazers. The Falcons continued their dominance winning 25-12 in the second set.

Messiah College would continue their authority in the third set and held the Hood (6-18, 0-8) to single digits, winning 25-9 for the sweep.

Messiah's All-time career kills leader, Lauren Rees, led all hitters with 12 kills. Junior setter Jess Geib orchestrated the Falcons attack dishing out 28 assists and also contributed three kills.

Fourteen Falcons saw playing time against the Blazers with nine recording at least one kill. The Falcons also tallied seven team blocks and served up 11 aces in the win.

Hood's Amy Hagerdon dug up 11 attacks and led all Blazers with five kills for the evening.

With the win, Messiah clinches a berth into the Commonwealth postseason, as their 7-1 conference record includes only a loss to undefeated Stevenson University. The Falcons will look to keep their conference record trending upward when they host Elizabethtown College (20-9, 6-2) on Thursday, Oct. 25. The match may very well determine the No. 2 seed in the Commonwealth playoffs, with a win for the Falcons securing a home playoff match.

Game time on Thursday is set for 7:00 p.m.
