Grantham, PA – Playing in their final regular-season contest for the 2012 season, No. 1 Messiah College scored three goals en route to a 3-0 win over Albright College. The win completes a perfect 9-0 schedule for the Falcons in the Commonwealth, their 11th consecutive undefeated regular-season in the conference.
Senior
Rachel Scheibeler collected her 10th goal of the season to open the scoring, putting home a shot from 22 yards out in the midfield off an assist from classmate
Alex Brandt.
With the score, Scheibeler joined Brandt (12) as Falcons with double-digit goal totals this season. The assist for Brandt was her team-leading ninth on the year.
The Falcons held their 1-0 lead into the second half, finally separating themselves from the Lions with scores in both the 67th and 80th minutes. Freshman
Macaulay Soto put Messiah up 2-0 when she followed up a saved shot by classmate
Carly Schaefer. It was Soto's first goal of the season.
The scoring was finished by junior
Alicia Frey's eighth goal of the year, as she put home a shot from 25 yards out with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Messiah kept control of the game from start to finish, taking 22 shots—14 in the second half—against just three for the visitors.
A combination of Kelly Burian and Alexis Lorusso made 10 saves for the Lions in the loss, with Messiah's
Audra Larson stopping Albright's lone shot on goal.
The win capped off Messiah's 11th consecutive undefeated regular-season in the Commonwealth—a streak that now will rest at 85 straight regular-season wins.
Ranked No. 1 the most recent NSCAA Top 25 Poll, the Falcons will now enter the Commonwealth Championships. They will start by hosting the semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
