Carlisle, PA - The Messiah men's and women's swim teams put up a good fight at Dickinson College Tuesday evening, but weren't able to earn enough points for victories as the men suffered a 121-72 loss.  The women made the night even more exciting, just missing the mark at 112-93.

Despite battling a strong Dickinson side, the Falcons were also fighting through fatigue and illness.

"I am proud of our team for doing so well," head coach Nancy Luley said. "We are a pretty sick team right now and very tired tonight, but we put forth alot of effort and it showed.  I feel good about the outcome."

The Falcons performed well in the relays to earn valuable points and had several monumental individual event victories.

The women's 200-yard medley relay comprised of seniors Katelynn Sagaser and Angela Klaczak, sophomore Laura Penwell, and freshman Anna McArdle posted a top-notch time of 1:57.25, maintaining Messiah's undefeated status in the event.

Sagaser and Penwell went on to win individual events for Messiah.  Sagaser won both the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.18) and 100-yard backstroke (1:02.20), while Penwell took the 100-yard butterfly.

Junior Hanna Schaffer had several strong performances, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :25.69, placing second in the 100-yard freestyle (:56.04), and swimming the anchor position in the 200-yard freestyle relay that won by more than two seconds (1:44.86).

In the grueling 1000-yard freestyle the Falcons finished fourth, fifth, and sixth with sixth place going to junior Julie Price who earned her first career MAC cut at 12:28.15.

For the men, the Falcons faced a very strong Dickinson side. Messiah placed second and third in the opening 200-yard medley relay and first and second in the exhibitioned 200-yard freestyle relay.

Freshman Aaron Eckman finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.67) and second in 500-yard freestyle (5:05.60).  Senior Nate Brown also earned a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (:22.23) and a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (:51.61).

The Falcons will take the rest of the week to prepare for the always exciting showdown with Lycoming College.  Saturday's meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Williamsport, Pa.
