Annville, PA - After helping Messiah College to a 21-5 overall record and 12-2 regular season record in the Commonwealth Conference, the Falcons'
Dori Gyori was honored this week by being named to First Team All-Commonwealth.
The junior forward led the Falcons in scoring 14.9 points per game (ppg) and rebounding with 8.0 rebounds per game (rpg). She also led the Commonwealth Conference in scoring this season, with her scoring average even bumping up to 16.0 ppg in Commonwealth competitions. She was fourth in rebound average.
Gyori also led the conference in block shots (1.3 per game) and was second in the Commonwealth with a 55.8% shooting accuracy from the field.
The Falcons' primary go-to option in the post, Gyori collected an incredible 11 double-double's this season-- including the final two regular season games and the Commonwealth Championships semifinals match-up with Widener University. In three other games this season, Gyori fell only one rebound shy of additional double-double performances. Nevertheless, she now has 26 double-double's her career.
Gyori led the Falcons in scoring 12 times this season, and rebounding 17 times, as Messiah collected a record of 21-5 and a #2-seed in the Commonwealth Championships. The team
fell short in the first round game to Widener University, 60-58.
Dori's election to the First Team is the second of her career, as she
also earned the award in 2010-11.
Widener's Kate Dellinger was honored with the Commonwealth's Player of the Year award. Although being held to only two points (1-8 shooting) in Widener's postseason win over the Falcons, Dellinger was third in the Commonwealth in scoring (14.4 ppg), sixth in rebounding (7.5 rpg), first in steals (3.0), and second in minutes played (32.2).
Dellinger collected six double-double's this season, and has 14 in her career.
Freshman point guard Kiely Chaklos was named Rookie of the Year as she led the conference in assists (4.1 per game) while starting all 26 games for the first place Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College. She also averaged 10 ppg and 4.8 rpg.
Elizabethtown's Yvonne Kauffman was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Blue Jays to the #4 seed in the Commonwealth Championships. The team finished 16-9 (9-5) in Kauffman's 42nd and final year on the bench for Elizabethtown.
