Box Score

Cortland, NY - A seven-goal run late in the first and early in the second quarters kept the Messiah College Falcons out of the win column for the second consecutive game Saturday in upstate New York. Although strong in the second half, the Falcons couldn't find enough offensive power to overcome the deficit- taking another loss, 12-5.

The Falcons (6-5) met the St. Lawrence Unviersity Saints (10-1) in Cortland, NY for the first ever match-up between the two squads, this one on neutral ground.

The teams traded early goals to start the game, but the Saints would take an 8-2 lead into the halftime break. The Saints opened the third with a goal before Messiah found a little rythym offensively for a little run of their own. The Falcons found the net three-straight times in the third and opening of the fourth to pull within four of the Saints but couldn't get any closer.

"I'm proud of our guys today," Falcons' head coach Geof Weisenborn said. "[St. Lawrence] is a very talented team and it showed today. But our guys went out there and gave it all they've got for 60 minutes. That's the kind of effort that we will need to move forward in the next two weeks- to have a chance at winning our conference."

The Falcons were led offensively by sophomore Josh Kerr's two goal performance. Senior James Baden added a goal and two assists to bring his season point total to 26 (13g, 13a).

Junior Matt Emerson had another good day at the faceoff-X going 13-20 with six groundballs. Senior Steve Kozuhowski made eight saves in the net for the Falcons.

The Saints were led by Kyle Jacobsen's three goals.

Messiah returns home to Grantham on Wednesday night, April 18 for a game against defending MAC conference champs and rival, Widener University. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
