Annville, PA - Messiah College fell to Lebanon Valley in a Commonwealth match-up on Wednesday, 9-0.
Lebanon Valley won all three doubles matches, but the Falcons did not go down without a fight.
At number one doubles
Erin Ipsen and
Sarah Brookhart lost to
Christie Graf and Amelia Capuano of the Dutchmen 8-1.
The second doubles matchup of
Ellen Harpold and
Katelyn Clark against LVC's
Tam Lobb and Mary Kate Lemon turned out to be a much better match. Harpold and Clark used disciplined ground strokes mixed with intense net play to force the Dutchmen to adapt to Messiah's style of play. In the end Lebanon Valley took the eight game pro set 8-5.
Jennifer Kitlan and
Michelle Curtis took the court for Messiah at number three doubles and played excellent tennis, but could not win the most important points and lost to Lebanon Valley's
Meghan Muccilli and Lauren Fulmer 8-4.
Singles action was all Dutchmen as well.
All the Falcons lost their matches in straight sets. Ipsen fell at number one singles 6-2, 6-1. Brookhart had the same fate at second singles losing 6-2, 6-1.
Clark and Harpold were each handed large defeats at three and four singles respectively. Clark lost 6-1, 6-0, while Harpold was handed a 6-0, 6-1 defeat.
Kitlan, playing at number five singles played well in her first set landed multiple forehand punches. However, the Dutchmen were too strong today and Kitlan lost the first set 6-3. She could not rebound in the second set and was dealt a 6-0 final set defeat.
Michelle Curtis played the best singles tennis of the day for Messiah, but even she could not avoid the wrath of the Dutchmen. Losing the first set in a close match 6-4, Curtis dropped the second set 6-1 to complete the victory for Lebanon Valley.
The Falcons, now 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference, will look to get back on track on Saturday, April 21st as they host the Knights of Arcadia at 10:00 a.m.
