Box Score
Grantham, PA - The Messiah Falcons (15-21) lost a 3-0 non-conference game to the McDaniel Green Terror on Wednesday afternoon. Messiah's offense was a no-show, as the usually formidable unit registered just three hits and a walk at the plate, spoiling a strong pitching day from senior
Nate Roten and the bullpen.
Roten went three terrific innings on the mound, allowing only one hit and no walks. He struck out two before handing the ball to junior
Galen Halteman. Halteman threw a shutout inning of his own before the Green Terror picked up three runs in the sixth inning off senior
Davin Okerblom (1-4).
Freshman
Drew Mininger followed with a scoreless frame in the seventh inning before sophomores
Colby Helgerson and
Chris Gill closed it out with shutout frames in the eighth and ninth innings.
Offensively, senior
Wes Hollenbach was the only Messiah player to reach base twice, doing so on a single and a walk. Sophomore
Jacob Sprengle contributed with a double and senior
John Brubaker had a hit of his own, but that was all for the Falcons' offense that entered the game averaging 6.5 runs per contest.
The Falcons travel to Elizabethtown, PA on Friday to take on the Blue Jays in a conference game that has strong playoff implications for both teams. Messiah returns home on Saturday to host E-Town in a doubleheader that concludes the three-game weekend series.
Messiah currently sits at 8-7 within the conference and E-Town is 7-8. If the Falcons sweep the series and finish 11-7, they edge out LVC for the number two seed. If the Falcons take two of the three games to finish 10-8, they will get the number three seed and play at LVC in the first round of the playoffs.
Game time for Friday's contest is 3:30 p.m. and the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m.
