Elizabethtown, PA - The Messiah College women's tennis team lost to Elizabethtown College 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Jays proved to be too much in both singles and doubles play.

The Falcons fell behind early in doubles losing all three matches by the same score.

Sarah Brookhart and Erin Ipsen faced Allison Burkhardt and Madison Pipkin at the highest doubles spot. Burkhardt and Pipkin got off to a hot start and finished with authority defeating Messiah's best pair 8-2 in the pro set.

Katelyn Clark and Ellen Harpold sqared off against Alena Marani ad Kristi Noecker at number two doubles. Harpold and Clark could not string together enough consistent shots to overcome Elizabethtown as the Falcons fell 8-2.

The final doubles match also went to Elizabethtown 8-2 as the Blue Jays Kaitlyn Pellegrino and C. Evangelista beat Michelle Curtis and Jennifer Kitlan in the pro set 8-2.

With the Falcons looking to get back in the match in singles play, E-town matched Messiah's intensity.

Pipkin and Ipsen faced off again at the top singles spot. Ipsen gave Pipkin a run for her money in the first set but could not break Pipkin's serve and lost the opening set 6-3.

With all the momentum in the Blue Jays favor and Ipsen discouraged from the first set defeat, Pipken ran away with the second set and claimed a win for Elizabethtown.

The number two and five singles matches had the exact same results.

Brookhart at two, and Harpold at five both lost their matches 6-1, 6-1.

Katelyn Clark, playing number three singles for Messiah, could not overcome the strong hitting from Noecker and fell 6-0, 6-1.

Jennifer Kitlan played valiantly at number four singles but faced the same fate as all of her teammates. Kitlan combined aggressive ground strokes and consistent play to stay in the first set, but she eventually fell 6-3.

Again, the Blue Jays carried the momentum into the second set and ran away with yet another victory.

"Elizabethown came out and executed all of their shots," head tennis coach Jon Arosell commented. "We learned a lot from this match and will use that as we move forward this season."

Messiah's next match is on Thursday, April 12th at 4:00 p.m. against Misericordia at Criste Courts.
