Box Score

Newport News, VA – The Salisbury University Seagulls scored five runs in the top of the first inning on Friday, eventually jumping out to a 7-0 lead on their way to an 9-2 victory over Messiah College. The loss for the Falcons ended their season in the NCAA Regionals Tournament for the second straight season.

Messiah starting pitcher Zach Adams was harshly greeted in Friday's game, even though he managed to collect two outs from the first two batters. Unfortunately, Salisbury's leadoff hitter reached first base after a strikeout by way of a wild pitch. After a lineout from the second batter of the game, six consecutive Seagulls reached base as the Falcons went down 5-0.

Adams was lifted in the top of the second inning after allowing singles to the first three batters faced. Paul Broomell came in relief, throwing seven innings and allowing just three hits and one run.

Jon Lapp and Jacob Sprengle collected the only two RBI's for the Falcons, with Messiah collecting nine total hits. Messiah third run scored on a double-play groundout in the ninth inning.

With the loss, Messiah completes their season with a 20-25 record. The Falcons won their second straight Commonwealth Conference Championship two weeks ago, advancing to the NCAA Regionals Tournament for the fifth time in program history.
