Annville, PA--The Messiah women's volleyball team beat conference opponent Lebanon Valley College 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) Tuesday night to move to 2-0 in the Commonwealth and 6-2 on the season.
Senior outside hitter
Lauren Rees led the Falcon attack with 13 kills on an impressive .360 hitting percentage while junior teammate
Jessica Geib notched 23 assists in the win. Junior
Allison Hill didn't let the Dutchmen attack get going, chipping in nine digs. Freshman
Hayley Cowoski also worked her way into the front-row rotation, tallying four kills and four digs for the Falcons.
Messiah Head Coach
Judi Tobias, in her 17th year coaching the Falcons, was impressed with her team's play, but fully expressed the improvements the team needs to make in order to compete with a tough schedule and conference.
“I am proud of the girls' efforts tonight,” Tobias said. "We fought well on defense and stayed resilient. However, there is certainly room to grow-- especially on the offensive side of the ball. We feel we have a very high ceiling with our team, and we're confident the girls will be able to make the improvements to make a run for the title this year.”
Messiah will head to Bethlehem, Pa., this weekend to play in the Old Friends Crossover, squaring off against Susquehanna University at 6:30 p.m. and Moravian College at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 14.
