Bethlehem, PA –The Messiah College Falcons (7-3, 2-0) defeated old rival Susquehanna University 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) and fell to host Moravian College 0-3 (29-31, 19-25, 23-25) on Friday night, splitting their two match-ups in the annual Old Friends' Crossover tournament held at Moravian College..

The Falcons, coming off a big 3-0 win against Lebanon Valley earlier in the week, began the tri-match against Susquehanna, where dominant performances from seniors Lauren Rees and Lindsay King, and from junior Jordyn Scheib, led Messiah to the sweep. Rees continues to be a presence on the court for the Falcons, tallying 13 kills with a .423 kill percentage in the match. King contributed six kills with an astounding .750 kill percentage. Scheib made her presence known Friday night, chipping in an additional 6 kills for the Falcons' win.

Shortly after sweeping Susquehanna, Messiah went on to play a much more challenging match against the Moravian College Greyhounds, placing the Falcons on the opposite end of a lopsided decidion. The Greyhounds defense proved a formidable match for the Falcons- accumulating a team total .112 kill percentage, their second lowest output of the season. Poor serving plagued the Falcons as well, committing 10 serving errors in the loss.

Despite the loss, Messiah still fought hard throughout the match, especially in the first game. The Falcons played through extra points before ultimately dropping the game to the Greyhounds, 29-31. Rees had yet another productive match, contributing 15 kills and 10 digs. Messiah junior Jess Geib also played strong, tallying 32 assists and 9 digs.

The Messiah College women's volleyball team will continue their conference play on Thursday, September 20, when the Falcons will take on new Commonwealth opponent Stevenson University at home. Stevenson was picked to finish third in the Commonwealth and currently sits at 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
