Grantham, PA- The last day of summer provided a beautiful afternoon of tennis on Criste Court as the Messiah College Falcons hosted the York College Spartans. The Messiah women's tennis team improved to 3-0 for the fall season with an overall match score of 7-2. The Messiah men were not as successful dropping the overall match 6-2 to York College, falling to 1-2 for the season.

The Messiah women had a strong showing against the Spartans. The women were able to sweep all 3 doubles matches including a tight 9-8 victory for Messiah's Eileen Barker and Elizabeth VanDe Bunte over York's Lauren Valles and Emily Skutnik.

Messiah's Jennifer Kitlan, Molly Brubaker, Eileen Barker, and Elizabeth VanDe Bunte were all victorious in their single matchups winning straight sets against their Spartan opponents.

"This is a pretty close-knit group," commented head coach Jon Arosell about the women's squad. "They really help each other out."

The men held their own but dropped the overall match to a traditionally tough Spartan team. Messiah's David Wichert and Michael Brookhart were successful in singles play, winning their matches. The match between Messiah's Zachary Brunner and York's Jake Greenstein resulted in a no-decision due to darkness.

The Falcons dropped all 3 men's doubles matches yielding a 6-2 match score in favor of the Spartans.

"I was very satisfied with our level of play today as well as our sportsmanship on the court," said coach Arosell. "All the matches were close which is what I like to see. This team traditionally rolls us."
The Messiah men will look to rebound on October 13th with an individual tournament in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The Messiah women will next participate in the Goucher tournament on September 28th at Goucher University.
