Falcons Pull Out Sweep of Warriors

Williamsport, PA – The Messiah College Falcons opened their Commonwealth Conference slate of games Wednesday evening by defeating the host Lycoming College Warriors by a score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16). The Falcons, picked in the preseason Commonwealth poll to win the conference, never trailed by more than a single point in the first and third sets in the league opener for both teams.

The second set saw a 10-1 run by the Warriors build a 16-11 lead, only to be followed up by a 14-3 run for the visiting Falcons en route to a 25-19 set win.

Junior Jess Geib delivered 29 assists to accompany her three kills. Senior Lauren Rees collected a match-high 14 kills for the Falcons' offense, which posted a team total .287 attack percentage in the match.

What may have been most notable during the match, however, was the dominant defensive play by the Falcons, which held the Warriors to a .053 total attack percentage.  Senior Lindsay King led the defensive effort with four blocks and Rees posted 12 digs- another game high. Freshman Adi Fulmer added 8 digs of her own in the win.

Junior Jordyn Schieb proved productive in just two sets, tallying 7 kills on an outstanding .400 kill percentage.

Messiah improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. Lycoming drops to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The Falcons will get a chance to play on their home court this coming weekend as they play host to Lancaster Bible College and Haverford College on Saturday September 8. Game times are slated for 10 a.m. and 2:30 p,m. respectively.
