Wilkes-Barre, PA – Messiah College's men's and women's swimming teams swept their dual meets at King's College on Saturday afternoon, taking down both the hosts and Arcadia University.

The women proved difficult to contend with for both teams, returning home with convincing wins by scores of 155-43 and 160-41 over Arcadia and King's, respectively. The 119-point win against King's is the Falcons' largest margin of victory since a 194-point win over FDU-Florham back on November 10th.

The women took first through fourth in 100-Butterfly, led by sophomore Laura Penwell's 1:04.05 showing. Additionally, Katelynn Sagasar, Caitlin Magaw, and Katie Reiter went 1-2-3 in the 200-IM.

The men, on the other hand, needed some late heroics—keyed by a 1-2 finish in the 100-Breastroke by junior Daniel Wingert and senior Tim Alarcon— and fought through a depleted lineup to overcome a late deficit for the victories.

“The highlight of the meet for me was the end. We were only a few points down to Arcadia and I think it came down to even some of our second and third place finishes,” Wingert said referring to their 107-82 win over the Knights from Arcdia. “Overall, it was a fairly adrenaline-filled meet, and I thought we swam well despite missing some key guys.”

The men also escaped King's by a score of 109-81.

Combined, the men and women took home first-place in 14 of the meet's 22 events women with 10 and the men with four.

“I think we competed well today,” head coach Nancy Luley said following the meet. “The women really dominated from the outset, but the men had a real nail-biter there at the end.”

“A strong effort in the breaststroke from Dan and Tim plus a great team effort in the relay at the end pulled it out for us.”

The Falcons will look to get back in the pool in nearly two weeks as they travel to Misericordia University (1/25) before returning home to host Lebanon Valley College the following day.

With MAC Championships just under a month away the Falcons' swimmers will continue to determine where their strengths lie and try to make the MAC Championship cut lines in the next two meets for shots at individual MAC titles and the ultimate goal of a team Championship.
