XML Box Score Frederick, MD - The No. 7 ranked Messiah Falcons defeated Hood College on the road today 3-0 and move to 9-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth.
Nikki Elsaesser provided two goals in the game bringing her season total to 13.
Action was sparse in the first 15 minutes of the game unitl Elsaesser netted her first of the day. The sophomore was fed the ball by
Emily Schneider on the left side of keeper Leah Norris and took a shot that found the far post of the goal and bounced to the back of the net.
Macaulay Soto put the Falcons up by two in the 36th minute of the game after she found the ball coming from
Marisa Weaver in the center of the box and slotted it past Norris to the left side. The goal is her third of the year.
Messiah has been averaging 19.1 shots per game this season and nearly acquired that number in the first half against the Blazers with 18. The Falcons ended the game with a 35-1 shot advantage.
Audra Larson didn't have to make any saves in the game as their shot didn't make it on target.
Eleven of the Falcons' 35 shots were on frame, thus forcing Norris to make eight saves in the match.Â
Later on, in the second half of play, Elsaesser scored her 13th of the season after a through ball was sent by Soto past a diving Norris that Elsaesser was able to guide into the goal.
Also putting pressure on the goal was
Mackenzie Clapper with three of the eight shots-on-goal that didn't make it past the keeper.
The Falcons were a little too eager at some points to get near the goal, collecting five offsides calls in the game.
Messiah improves their overall record to 9-2-1 and conference record to 2-0 with the win. Hood falls to 3-8 and 0-2, respectively. The Falcons' next game will come on this Saturday (Oct. 12) at Elizabethtown College at 2:00 p.m. Â
