Falcons Stay Hot, Sweep Widener on Road

XML Box Score Chester, PA – Messiah College has added to their winning streak tonight, making it six games in a row, by defeating the Widener Pride 3-0. The Falcons narrowly won the first set 25-23 but improved in the next two, winning 25-22 and 25-20.
 
The young duo of Kristen Douglas and Jane Underman once again came through in this match, each collecting 11 kills to lead the team. The pair continue to lead the team overall this season with 457 kills combined. Total kills in the match added up to 45 for Messiah and 37 for Widener.
 
Other attacking leaders for the Falcons included Alyssa Vorbeck (7) and Jordyn Scheib (6), hitting out of the middle position.
 
Jessica Geib continued her stellar play this season with 35 assists, 11 digs, and six kills. She now has 774 assists on the season. Geib also provided one of the team's six service aces.
 
Leading on the defensive side of the ball was Allison Hill with 12 digs. Douglas also collected 10 digs in the match and leads the team this season with a total of 285.
 
Attacking errors were held to a minimum in the match with everyone hitting a percentage above zero. Widener also played well in this regard, only hitting 10 errors in the whole match.
 
The Pride were led by Brooke Ruditys with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage. She also led the team in digs with 17 total. 
 
With the win, Messiah moves to 15-9 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth. The Pride fall to 14-12 overall and 2-5 in the conference. The Falcons will face Hood College at home for their next game on Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
