XML Box Score Elizabethtown, PA – One day after the Messiah men received
five first-half goals from five different players, the Falcons' women came close to doing the same in a 6-1 win over Elizabethtown College. Messiah settled for four goals from four different players against the Blue Jays with the first two tallies coming in the first 10 minutes of action.
The win moves Messiah to 11-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. Elizabethtown falls to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Emily Schneider scored the first goal of the night in the sixth minute on a square pass from
Corinne Wulf across the six-yard line. Less than four minutes later
Nikki Elsaesser sent a shot from inside the top of the 18-yard line to the upper-right corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Messiah would hold the 2-0 lead until late the first-half when
Marisa DeMonte and
Mackenzie Clapper each scored in a 33-second span. DeMonte's goal—which came off a shot from just outside the 18— was her first of the season and came off an assist from
Erin Sollenberger. Quickly after the score Clapper came attacking in from the left side for a shot to the lower right edge of the goal to put the Falcons on top 4-0.
For the Falcons it was the first time four different players tallied in the same half since Nov. 4, 2012 when they accomplished the feat in the second-half a
7-0 win over Stevenson University. It was the first time they've done it in a game's first-half since a
7-0 win over Wittenberg University to open the 2011 season.
Messiah outshot Elizabethtown 17-1 in the first-half, with Blue Jays keeper Dana Robidoux collecting seven saves.
At the start of the second-half the Falcons added another goal as Wulf again found Scheider. This time, Wulf's pass came higher across the box to the Messiah winger on the right side for her second goal of the game. It was also Schneider's fourth goal of the season.
Marisa Weaver scored the Falcons' sixth unanswered goal later in the half, sending a shot from 15 yards out on the right off the hands of Robidoux and into the net.
The Blue Jays' Kacey Cerankowski did end prevent the Falcons' ninth-straight shutout with a goal in the 76th minute off assists from both Callie McClanahan and Deanna Slater.
The Falcons finished with a 37-3 edge in shots, with 18 attempts going on frame. Messiah also attempted nine corners to the Blue Jays' two.
Messiah will look to build upon their six-game win streak when they host Stevenson University on
Homecoming this Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
