XML Box Score Grantham, PA – Messiah College scored two goals in each half and delivered another dominant defensive performance in a 4-0 shutout of Stevenson University on the Falcons' Homecoming Day. With the win Messiah improves to 11-3 over and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. Stevenson falls to 9-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.
Macaulay Soto provided the game-winner in the 22nd minute off a cross from
Emily Schneider. The goal for Soto and the assist for Schneider was each their fourth of the season.
Less than five minutes later
Ali Rogers scored her first goal of the season with a lofted shot from 15 yards out on the right side. Mustangs keeper Annie McCoach, thinking she was closer to the right post than she actually was, shied away from grabbing the ball only to turn and see it land over the goal line for a 2-0 Messiah lead.
Messiah outshot the Mustangs 11-0 in the first-half as they were on their way to keeping an opponent without a shot on goal for the seventh time this season.
In the second-half
Corinne Wulf scored her fifth goal of the season—all which have come in the last six games—after taking a feed from Schneider in the middle of the box and spinning off her defender.
Marisa Weaver finished the scoring for the hosts in the 81st minute after following up a saved shot from
Trisha Tshudy. The goal was Weaver's second in as many games.
McCoach and backup keeper Alicia Greene each collected three saves for the Mustangs who have now gone winless in three-straight conference games.
Messiah moves their unbeaten streak to 11 games (10-1) since losing two-straight in early September. They will next play on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to Lycoming College for a 4:00 p.m. game.
