Bulldogs, Eagles Too Much For Falcons At MAC Crossover

XML Box Score 1 | XML Box Score 2 St. Davids, PA - The Messiah Falcons traveled to Eastern University today to play in the MAC Crossover where they lost to both DeSales University (3-1) and the hosts (3-0).

Messiah College fell to DeSales University in the first of two matches in the day. Lauren Hess led the Bulldogs with an unforgiving 28 kills and .397 hitting percentage while Justine McNulty chipped in 32 assists.

The first set was won by the Falcons with a score of 25-14 but Messiah could not repeat that success and lost the next three 25-21, 25-19, and 25-15.

The Falcons were led in attacking by Jane Underman with 14 kills and a .234 attack percentage. Jessica Geib collected 34 assists and 16 digs. Allison Hill led the defense with a season-high 28 digs.

The loss brought Messiah's overall record to 9-8 while DeSales improved to 11-10.

After that match was over, Messiah had a quick turnaround to face the No. 13 team in the country and lost in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-17).

Kristen Douglas collected 10 kills in the match with a .250 attack percentage. Hannah Baumer attacked well in the match, putting away eight kills with a .389 percentage.

Leading the Eagles against Messiah was Stephanie Elechko with 14 kills and zero errors on 19 attempts; that's a .737 hitting percentage. Eastern also utilized just seven players on their roster in the match.

Liz MacNeil led the Falcons in digs with 13 while Geib contributed 26 assists and 10 digs. Messiah had the advantage in total blocks against the Eagles 7-3; Jordyn Scheib had three assists and one solo.

The second loss of the day brings Messiah's overall record to 9-9 this season. Eastern improves to 19-2 on the year with the win. The Falcons will look to rebound when they host Arcadia University this Tuesday (10/8) at 7:00 p.m.
