Ft. Pierce, FL - Messiah College capitalized on a number of late errors by Delaware Valley on Monday, pulling away late for a 13-4 win to start their spring break trip. The Falcons led 5-4 in the eighth inning before finishing with the lopsided decision.

Jon Lapp started for the Falcons and completed 4.2 innings. He allowed four runs-- one earned-- on four hits and three walks. He exited in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runners on base and a run in. Adam Marshall relieved Lapp and ended the inning with a strikeout.

Marshall went on to pitch four more innings in relief, allowing just a single hit while striking out five total batters.

Derek Drake led the Falcons with three RBIs, including a scoring single in the first inning. Delaware Valley recovered to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning, as Lapp and the Falcons combined to allow five batters to reach by hit or error with two outs.

The Falcons responded with their own three-run rally, with Ebersole (RBI single) making it 3-2 before two more runs scored on Aggies' errors.

After trading a run each in the mid-innings, Messiah lead 5-4 heading into the eighth before blowing things open. Jacob Sprengle (single) and Derek Drake (walk) each collected RBIs in a five-run frame, with Drake then collecting a three-run double in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Drake finished the game with five RBI and two hits. Sprengle also had two of the Falcons' nine hits, as Messiah benefitted from six unearned runs in the 13-4 win.

Second Game

Evan Young fell victim to a deep St. Scholastics lineup on Monday, as he allowed eight earned runs on 13 hits over six full innings. The Sainst scored just single runs in the first and second innings before adding six more in Young's final two frames.

Messiah scored three runs in their final at-bat, as Luke Rohrbaugh cleared the bases with a triple. It was the main bright spot for the Falcons, as they collected just four hits and three walks against the Saints' pitching staff. Michael Swenson earned the win for Scholastica after completing seven innings and striking our four.

Tyer Moody (three earned runs), Steven Ridings, and Russell Woleslagel (two earned runs) combined to complete the final two innings of work for Messiah.

The Falcons will take a day off on Tuesday before playing a double-header on Wednesday against Richard Stockton.
