Casey Ebersole laced a game-winning single in the bottom of the tenth inning on Wednesday, sending Messiah to a 2-1 win over Richard Stockton.
The win ended a pitcher's duel, as
Steven Ridings provided a strong start for the Falcons. The freshman pitched seven innings, allowed five hits and two walks, and collected nine strikeouts in the game.
Adam Marshall relieved him to get his second win this season, pitching the other 3 innings.
The first run for the Falcons came in the 4th inning.
Derek Drake started things off with a single and advanced to third on an error by the third baseman. Another error later in the inning advanced
David Sletta to second base and brought Drake home.
Two singles for Richard Stockton in the 6th got runners on base. Then a double from Shawn Kessler brought one of them home to tie the game at one.
The game went scoreless from there through the ninth inning, forcing it into a tenth.
Ben Sollenberger singled to lead off the inning and he went to second on a groundout by
Zach Brubaker.
Casey Ebersole then singled leading to an error by the third baseman which then brought home Sollenberger, ending the game.
Casey Ebersole led the team in hitting, going 3 for 5 on the day.
Game Two
The Ospreys proved stronger in the second game of the double header though, winning 6-0.
Russell Woleslagel pitched for the Falcons, dropping his overall record this season to 0-2.
The Ospreys scored all six runs in the 2nd inning, and didn't look back from there. Woleslagel was taken out of the game after he gave up five.
Tyler Moody came in for him but he gave up one more. The Ospreys batted around and had five hits in total.
The rest of the game was a stalemate, each pitcher doing their jobs. Kolya Stephenson from Richard Stockton went all seven innings with seven strikeouts but gave up eight hits that the Falcons couldn't take advantage of.
The Falcons will return to the field on Thursday for a game against Keystone College at 12 p.m.
