Ft. Pierce, FL - The Falcons lost a tough battle with the Keystone College Giants on Thursday 4-3. It was 3-3 going into the ninth inning where the Giants scored the game-winning run.
The Giants of Keystone College started out strong in this game, scoring two of their runs in the first inning. The leadoff man successfully bunted and stole second; he then reached third on a groundout. The third Giant up to the plate laced a double to bring in the run and then he scored on an error from
Casey Ebersole.
Keystone would then go up 3-0 in the fourth inning of the game because of two batters being hit by pitches as well as a wild pitch from
Peter Fisher. The Giants didn't have any hits in the inning.
The game remained the same score until the bottom of the eighth when the Falcons started to rally.
Jon Heisey led off for Messiah with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. Heisey then scored on an error and
Jeremiah Eaton scored on a passed ball after reaching from being hit by a pitch. The third run came in from Ebersole off of an error by the pitcher.
In the ninth inning for Keystone, the winning run got on base by an error from Ebersole with two outs on the board. Lymbel Guerrero drove him in on a single up the middle to secure the one score lead.
Ben Sollenberger struck out swinging but an error by the catcher got him on base in the bottom of the ninth. He was then caught stealing and the Falcons couldn't put anyone else on after that.
The loss moves the Falcons to 3-7 overall this season and 2-2 on the spring break trip in Florida.
After the team returns to Pennsylvania they will play their first conference games of the season at Albright College on Mar. 16.
