Grantham, PA - Messiah College women's tennis secured their second win of the spring season today against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets 7-2.
The women swept the Yellow Jackets in the doubles matches, although every match was very close.
Ellen Harpold and
Molly Brubaker's match went into a tie break but they came out with the win in the tie break 7-5, and in the match 9-8. The other two doubles matches almost went that far, but they ended with 8-6 victories for the Falcons.
The Falcons would successfully take that momentum into the singles matches where they won four out of the six. Key wins in the singles matches went to
Molly Brubaker with a 7-5 and 6-2 victory, as well as
Eileen Barker with a 6-4 and 6-3 victory. The other singles victories went to
Jennifer Kitlan (6-2, 6-4) and
Katelyn Clark (6-0, 6-1).
"This was a big confidence builder for the team," said head coach
Jon Arosell after the match. "It was just the kind of match we needed before we start our conference matches next week."
The win takes their record to 2-4 on the season while Randolph-Macon falls to 4-6. The next matches for Messiah will be against Alvernia University at home on Mar. 28.
