Reading, PA - After almost a month of not competing, the men's tennis team have secured their first Commonwealth win of the spring season against the Alvernia Crusaders 8-1.

There was no drama in this match for the Falcons. All of the players that won their matches, won in straight sets without allowing their opponents to win more than three games.

They opened up the match on the doubles side with three victories, the closest match of the three going to Peter Shuck and Justin Meckley in the two spot. Despite the competiveness of the match, Shuck and Meckley came out on top with an 8-5 score. The other two doubles matches were won with scores of 8-4 and 8-2.

Although Mike Brookhart and Luke Hostetter took care of business in the doubles matches, Hostetter couldn't come through with his singles match in the Falcons only loss on the day, 6-3, 6-2. Hostetter's opponent though, Dan Minnich, currently holds the best record on the Crusaders' team at 12-3.

As mentioned above, the other singles matches were won in two sets. Mike Brookhart defeated Nate Bauer 6-3, 6-3 and Dave Wichert gave up just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The Falcons have restarted the spring season very well against the conference opponent.

The win moves the team to 4-2 in the spring, and 1-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Falcons will try to take this momentum into their next match against Lebanon Valley College at home this Saturday, Apr. 13.
