Grantham, PA - Messiah College men's tennis took a narrow 5-4 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday, taking four of the six singles matches to defeat the Dutchmen while the women lost 8-1.

The men took one of the three doubles matches against Lebanon Valley. Derek Hoffer and Dan Rusling defeated Sam Calabria and Cody Manmiller with a score of 8-4. In the number two spot of the doubles, Justin Meckley and Peter Shuck narrowly lost their match 9-7.

In the singles matches, the top four spots for the team collected wins. Michael Brookhart defeated Ethan Grodzinski in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Peter Shuck and David Wichert also won their matches in straight sets.

Justin Meckley's match would prove to be the game-winner in the overall scoring though. He lost the first set 6-4 but then came back to win the next two sets by the same score over Ryan Weitzel.

On the women's side, Lebanon Valley swept Messiah in the singles matches. Katelyn Clark put up a fight in her match, winning the second set but losing a very close third, 10-8.

In the doubles, Molly Brubaker and Ellen Harpold got the only point of the day with a win over Mary Kate Lemon and Meghan Muccilli 8-3.

The Messiah men improve their record to 5-2 this spring season, while the women drop to 4-5 overall. The men will play on Apr. 16 against Lycoming College at the West Branch Tennis Club and the women will travel to Hood College on Apr. 17.
