Westminster, MD - The Messiah College softball team held McDaniel College to only three hits on the day as they shutout the Green Terror in non-conference play Thursday.  The Falcons' offense scored 22 runs across both games to bring home the 13-0 (5 innings) and 9-0 (6 innings).

Game One

Starting pitcher Claressa Mees (7-2) was dominant on the mound for the Falcons (19-10), throwing three innings of no-hit softball.  Mees retired nine of 10 batters faced with her only miss-fire coming in the second inning when she hit the Green Terror's (15-15) lead-off batter.

Right-hander Jayme Babczak relieved Mees in the fourth inning and never missed a beat, maintaining the no-hitter with ease.  Babczak's only blemish was a lone walk that gave McDaniel their second base runner of the game.

Offensively, the Falcons ripped nine hits, drew a season-high 11 walks, and took advantage of five Green Terror errors to post 13 runs.

After a scoreless first inning, Messiah plated four runs in the second.  The Falcons scored two of their four runs on walks, while the other two runs were a result of a defensive error and a sacrifice fly by Courtney AllenStephanie Schell's double and Sarah Dietrich's single were the only hits in the inning.

The bats continued to blaze in the third as Allen and Becky Notte both doubled for the Falcons.  Another Green Terror error and three walks helped Messiah add five more runs to the scoreboard.

The Falcons turned three hits into four runs in the next two innings of play, bringing the score to 13-0.
Allen led Messiah with three hits and two RBI's.   Amanda Fife was a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks and crossed the plate three times.

Game Two

The Falcons stroked nine hits and scored runs in five of six innings in Game Two en route to a second shutout victory.

In the first inning, Messiah managed two hits while McDaniel committed one error, resulting in a single run for the Falcons.  The two hit to one error ratio continued in both the second and third innings, yet Messiah tacked on an additional run in both innings to bring the score to 5-0.

Katie Souders, who leads the team in slugging percentage (.675), stole the show in the top of the third when she drove the ball well over the center field fence for her fifth homerun (two RBI) of the season.

In the sixth, a double by Fife and singles from Nicole Blantz, Babczak, and Schell led to three more runs and the 9-0, six-inning win.

Starting pitcher, Mallory Rutledge (9-4) held the Green Terror to only three hits through five innings of work, while closer Sarah Dietrich faced four batters and gave up a single walk.

With the sweep, Messiah closes out their non-conference games and moves to 19-10 on the season.  The Falcons return to Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Owings Mills, Maryland for a double-header with Stevenson University.  Game One will begin at 1:00 p.m.
