Grantham, PA- Just one day after allowing Lebanon Valley to score 30 runs in Friday's meeting, Messiah held the Dutchmen to just one run between two games.
Mike Specht opened the scoring with an RBI double in the fourth inning to get the Dutchmen on the board with a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.
Messiah would counter with an offensive eruption in the home stretch of the sixth inning.
Derek Drake singled to center to bring
Jacob Sprengle home and tie the game at one.
Drake would then score the go-ahead run for the Falcons on a throwing error committed by Andrew Wooley.
David Sletta kept momentum in Messiah's favor as he earned an RBI on a fielder's choice to put the Falcons up 3-1.
With the bases loaded,
Zach Brubaker continued the late-game offense for the Falcons. Brubaker hit a single to right field, which scored teammates Sletta and
Matt Turman to put the Falcons ahead 5-1.
Jon Lapp would pitch the complete game allowing only one run and registering five strikeouts.
The Falcons offense was led by the bats of Brubaker and
Derek Drake. Brubaker finished the first game going one-for-four with 2 RBI, while Drake batted one-for-two with an RBI.
Game Two
Steven Ridings dominated the Dutchmen from the mound en route to Messiah's 1-0 victory in game two.
Ridings pitched a complete game, allowed only four hits, and registered nine strikeouts on the afternoon. The Dutchmen were hitless in four of seven innings in game two.
The Falcons' lone run came in the second inning on an RBI single up the middle by Lapp. Lapp sent the ball back up the middle to drive home
Paul Mellinger for the lone run of the game.
The pair of wins moves Messiah to 8-16 on the season and 5-6 in the Commonwealth Conference.
The Falcons will next host Shenandoah University for a single game on Apr. 9, at 3:30 p.m.
