Box Score
Grantham, PA -
Gabrielle Hamelryck dished out a career-high six assists and finished with seven total points, leading No. 14 Messiah to a 17-1 victory over Hood College on Anderson Field. The Falcons went 11-0 at the half and took a 13-0 lead before Hood broke up the shutout. Eight different Messiah players scored a goal in the game as they moved to 6-5 on the season and 3-0 in the Commonwealth Conference.
Hamelryck's assist total broke her previous record of four helpers in a game—a record achieved twice already this season and as recently as the Falcons' 17-5 win over Lycoming on Apr. 3. On Tuesday, Hamelryck assisted on Messiah's first three goals including the game's first score from
Carly Bajus after just 15 seconds of action.
Messiah went up 3-0 after the first 2:42 of play, and then 4-0 on Hamelryck's only score of the game.
The Falcons eventually went up 8-0 at the 18:39 mark of the first-half and, until that point, had kept the Blazers from crossing midfield with possession.
The Blazers (3-7, 0-4) broke up the shutout in the second-half, as Ashley Kitzmiller scored an unassisted goal on the Falcons'
Megan Beardsley at the 19:58 mark. Messiah added four more goals to finish with the 17-1 win.
Messiah dominated the game from start to finish, collecting 15 draw controls to Hood's five and forcing Hood to go just 2-21 on clear attempts. The Falcons also launched 40 total shots, though Lauren Couch made 13 saves in the cage for the Blazers.
Lizzy Keeney's four goals pushed her team-leading total to 35 this season, with Stikeleather and
Cecilia Kjellman each adding three scores.
Courtney Farlling was also among the team's goal scorers, as she tallied the first score of her career late in the first-half.
Messiah stays undefeated in the Commonwealth with the win and will now look forward to taking on the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown on the road on Saturday, Apr. 13. The rematch of last year's Commonwealth Championship will be the first of two-straight road games for the Falcons (at Stevenson, Apr. 17) before they return home on Saturday, Apr. 20 for a game with Lebanon Valley.
