Falcons Defeat Warriors With Shutout

Williamsport, PA - The Falcons visited the Lycoming College Warriors today for a conference match-up that would go the Falcons way with a 9-0 score.

The closest match of the day for the Falcons was in the one spot of the doubles competition with Erin Ipsen and Eileen Barker. The duo took the match into a tiebreaker at 8-8 and eventually came out on top winning that 12-10 and the match 9-8. The other two doubles matches were won by the Falcons 8-1 and 8-2.

The singles matches were also handled well by Messiah. Four of the six were won in two straight sets, one of those being a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Jennifer Kitlan. The first match that went into a third set was from Erin Ipsen. She dropped the first set 6-4 but rallied back to take the second 6-1. Ipsen carried that momentum into the third set and won it 10-2.

Katelyn Clark had the other three-set match of the day. She won the first set 7-5 but would then lose the second set in a 6-6 tiebreak that ended 7-4 in favor of the Warriors. Clark would hold on for the third set and win it by a score of 10-5, clinching the shutout victory for the Falcons.

The win moves Messiah to 4-4 on the spring season and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Falcons will look forward to their next matches against Lebanon Valley College at home on Apr. 13.
