Box Score

Annville, PA - The Falcons' tennis season has come to a close today as they fell to No. 2 Lebanon Valley College by a score of 5-1 in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals.

Three of the singles matches went unfinished on the day, presumably because the Dutchmen had already won the necessary five matches out of nine. The lone win for Messiah came from the doubles pair of Molly Brubaker and Ellen Harpold with an 8-5 result.

Messiah narrowly lost the No. 3 doubles match with Katelyn Clark and Michelle Curtis against Lauren Fulmer and Lauren Shanburg 9-8. The tiebreaker for that match was just as close with an 8-6 score. Had the Falcons won the match, they would have kept playing on the singles side, in which they were giving the Dutchmen a run.

When it ended, Eileen Barker had split one set each with Meghan Muccilli and had just started playing the third. Also Jennifer Kitlan and Katelyn Clark were winning in their second sets 5-4 and 4-3, respectively.

The No. 1, 2, and 3 singles matches for the women proved to be too tough for Messiah. Erin Ipsen, Molly Brubaker, and Ellen Harpold lost in two sets to their opponents. Ipsen was closest to taking a set as she lost her first 7-5.

The 2013 season comes to a close for the Falcons' women's tennis team but with a young squad they will look forward to getting back out on the courts come September.
