Box Score
Elizabethtown, PA - Messiah could not step up to win against the defending Commonwealth Champion Blue Jays as they took the match 5-0 on their home courts.
Just like the Falcons shut out Alvernia University in the semifinals on Thursday, the Blue Jays kept Messiah scoreless in the match.
Elizabethtown got out to a 3-0 lead after winning all of the doubles matches.
David Wichert and
Zachary Brunner were most successful of the three, losing with a score of 8-3 to Cole Turula and Michael Cannon. The No. 1 and 2 doubles matches were lost with 8-2 and 8-1 scores, respectively.
Unfortunately the Blue Jays only had to win two of the remaining six singles matches in order to win the overall match. They took the first two that finished with the other four remaining unfinished.
Justin Meckley lost his match to Paul Witman 6-1, 6-1 and
Zachary Brunner lost to Michael Cannon 6-4, 6-0.
Michael Brookhart and
David Wichert won their first sets but both Falcons were losing their second sets when the matches were stopped.
Peter Shuck looked like he was going to win his match against Cole Turula. Shuck won his first set 6-2 and was winning the second 4-0 when they stopped play.
The Blue Jays proved to be too strong once again in the Commonwealth, successfully taking their third straight conference championship. Elizabethtown is now 15-3 overall, while the Falcons finish their regular and conference seasons at 10-6 overall.
