Falcons Take Down Sea Gulls, Elsaesser Gets Two More

9/14/2013 8:52:00 PM

XML Box Score Nikki Elsaesser contined her goal-scoring streak in the 2-0 win tonight against Salisbury University. The goals are recorded as her fifth and sixth of the season thus far. It is the second time this year that she has scored more than one goal in a game.

Neither side had many goal-scoring chances in the first half of this game but the Falcons managed to put away the first one that they got in the 15th minute of the game. Emily Schneider got down the left side of the field with the ball and sent a cross over to the foot of Elsaesser, which put the ball into the top left corner.

Despite forcing keeper Michelle Conrad to make four saves in the first half, they couldn't get any more past her and entered the intermission with the one-goal lead.

The Falcons controlled more of the possession in the second half of the game, not letting the ball get past their back line for most of it. Messiah also earned themselves four corner kicks while only giving up one.

Elaesser's second goal of the game came in the 56th minute of the game due to the footwork of Corinne Wulf setting her up. Wulf dribbled towards the top middle of the 18-yard line, drawing her defender, and laid the ball off for Elsaesser to pick it up and drill one to the bottom right corner.

Messiah got a few more good looks at the goal throughout the rest of the game including one for Marisa Weaver which ended in her slipping just before the ball got to her from a cross. Marisa DeMonte also had a great chance, taking a shot from outside the 18 that Conrad was barely able to get a hand on.

With the win Messiah improves to 4-2 overall and creates a two-game winning streak. The Sea Gulls fall to 3-3 this season with the loss. The Falcons will next head to St. Davids, Pa., to take on Eastern University on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
