Glenside, PA - The Falcons triumphed over the Knights of Arcadia 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-20) and improved their record to (21-5, 5-1 C'Wealth Conference).
The Falcons came out firing in the first set defeating the Knights 25-9. Messiah led 6-3 early in the first set when the Falcons went on an astonishing 13 point scoring streak. Messiah scored from four service aces by
Danielle Weaver, four kills by
Kristen Douglas, one kill each by
Alyssa Vorbeck and
Brooke Gallagher, and three attack errors committed by the Knights. The Falcons led 22-9 when kills by
Hannah Baumer and
Kristen Douglas, and an attack error by Arcadia gave the Falcons the first set victory.
Messiah kept their momentum rolling from the first set into the second as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. The Falcons put together three and four point scoring streaks throughout the set to increase their lead to 20-10. A kill from
Hannah Baumer, two service aces from
Emily Buckwalter, and two errors from the Knights gave the Falcons a five point scoring streak and the second set victory. Messiah finished the set with a .250 attack percentage compared to the Knights -.071.
The Falcons earned the third set and match victory as they won 25-20. With the set tied at 15 a piece, Messiah went on a three point scoring streak with kills from
Hayley Cowoski,
Julia Temple, and an attack error by the Knights gave the Falcons a 18-15 lead. Both teams would exchange points to bring the score to 23-20 in the Falcons favor.
Emily Buckwalter tallied the final two kills from
Jennifer Rusling and gave the Falcons the set and match victory.
Kristen Douglas and
Emily Buckwalter led Messiah offensively with seven kills each while
Emily Zellers led the Falcons defensively with 11 digs. Messiah will be back in action October 22nd when they travel to Lebanon Valley College and take on the Dutchmen.
