Second-Half Barrage Leads Falcons Over Farmingdale

Farmingdale, NY – Messiah College scored three times in the first nine minutes of the second-half on Saturday to support a 3-0 win over Farmingdale State. The win pushed No. 1 Messiah to 16-0-1 on the season, while Farmingdale fell to 11-4-4.

Erin Sollenberger tallied just 45 seconds after the intermission to start the outburst. Marisa Weaver set up the score with a serve from the right side, and Sollenberger headed it through for the lead.

The score simultaneously broke the stalemate and opened the floodgates for the Falcons. In the 49th minute the Falcons got in front the Rams' goal for three consecutive shots that produced another goal. Holly Burgard took the first attempt (blocked) and Macaualay Soto then fired only to see her offering saved. But Elsaesser was there to clean it up, sending it through for her 18th goal of the season and a 2-0

Less than five minutes later the Falcons went up 3-0, as Weyland scored for the second time this season.

The score was a mostly fair representation of the game, though a fingertip save by Audra Larson did save Messiah a 0-1 deficit midway through the first half. All told, Messiah finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots while both Larson and two Rams' keepers each collected five saves.

The shutout for the Falcons' defense was also their 14th in 17 games this season.

The Falcons will next play on Wednesday, Oct. 29 when they play on the road at Alvernia University. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
