Falcons Score Early, Often In 10-0 Win

Grantham, PA – No. 1 Messiah College finished up a seven-game home stand in loud fashion Tuesday night, winning 10-0 over Lycoming College. Nikki Elsaesser and Marisa Weaver each tallied a hat trick to lead to Falcons (12-0) to a 2-0 start in the Commonwealth Conference.

The win also pushed the Falcons to 9-0 all-time against the Warriors.

Nikki Elsaesser scored all three of her goals in the first 17 minutes, with three different teammates collecting assists on the tallies. The third goal came off a long throw-in from Kayla Decket, setting up Elsaesser's second hat trick this season. Marisa Weaver then put the Falcons up 4-0 in the 19th minute with a penalty kick score.

Firmly in control, Messiah went up 5-0 a few minutes later. Holly Burgard attacked into the right side of the box and centered a pass across the goal to Olivia Snare for the one-timer into the net. Decket collected another assist on the play thanks to her pass through to Burgard.

The Falcons' five first-half goals came on 14 shots. Joelle Winey prevented further damage with two saves, the second of which being on an impressive dive to stop Weaver's attempt from 20 yards out.

In the second-half Messiah added five more goals. The first came less than two minutes in as Kyele Bridel finished off a hard cross from Weaver on the end line.

The score remained 6-0 until later in the half when Weaver broke free from the midfield for a one-on-one score against Winey. Moments later Weaver completed her hat trick with a perfect header off a long serve from Bridel on the right touchline. It was the first time the Falcons had two hat tricks in one game since Nov. 12, 2011 when Erin Hench and Corinne Wulf did so against Elms College in the NCAA First Round.

Natalie Hoober and Lydia Eichorn completed the scoring in the 71st and 72nd minutes, respectively.

As mentioned, the game marked the end of Messiah's seven-game home stand. Over the stretch they went 7-0 with 33-1 advantage in goals scored.

The Falcons will next play on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a 12:00 start.
