Falcons Finish 2-0 at Old Friends Crossover

Grantham, PA - The Messiah Falcons swept the Moravian Greyhounds 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-17) and had a come from behind win over the Susquehanna Crusaders 3-2 (27-29, 16-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-11) during senior day at the Old Friends Crossover Saturday in Brubaker Autorium.

Match One: Moravian College 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-17)

The Falcons dominated their first match of the Old Friends Crossover as they swept the Greyhounds of Moravian College 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-17).
 
The Falcons didn't waste any time to put points on the board. They came out and scored seven in a row to go up 7-0 over they Greyhounds. Kills by Jane Underman, Emily Lelah, and service aces from Brooke Gallagher ignited the Falcons early scoring streak.
 
Leading 10-2, Messiah scored four more unanswered points with two kills by Kristen Douglas, a kill from Haley Cowoski, and an attack error committed by Moravian. The Falcons held their enormous lead and led 24-12 when Kristen Douglas delivered the final kill of the set and gave Messiah the victory.
 
The Greyhounds played the Falcons tough early in the second set, but the Falcons pulled away in the end. Messiah led 7-6 when they went on a six point scoring streak with kills by Kristen Douglas, Julia Temple, Emily Buckwalter, a service ace by Alyssa Vorbeck, and an attack error by the Greyhounds.
 
The Falcons didn't let the Greyhounds back in the game once they pulled away and an attack error committed by Moravian gave the Falcons the final point and set victory. Messiah finished with .419 attack percentage compared to the Greyhounds -.125.
 
The third set was the closest of the match and Messiah still won eight points. The Falcons led 8-2 when the Greyhounds five unanswered point to tighten the score to 8-7 in the Falcons favor. Both teams exchanged scores but the Falcons quietly built their lead and were leading 24-17 when an attack error by the Greyhounds gave Messiah the set and match victory.
 
Kristen Douglas led the Falcons offensively and defensively with 12 kills and 11 digs.

Match Two: Susquehanna University (27-29, 16-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-11)

The second match of the day was a thrilling match where the Falcons completed a come back victory against the Crusaders of Susquehanna University.
 
The first set of the match was a battle which included 13 tie scores and seven lead changes during the set with the Crusaders coming out victorious. Both teams played to a 25-25 tie when a kill by Alyssa Vorbeck gave the Falcons a 26-25 lead.
 
The Crusaders responded with a kill by Marykate Sherkness and a service ace by Erin Byrne to go up 27-26 over the Falcons. Messiah tied the score again with an attack error committed by the Crusaders, but Susquehanna scored the final two points with kills by Hayley Dunkel and Julie Kreutzer to win the set 29-27.
 
Susquehanna led 21-16 during the second set when they rallied off four  unanswered points by attack errors from the Falcons and kills by Morgan Whiteman and Erin Byrne to lead the match 2-0.
 
The third and fourth sets were both won by the Falcons. The fourth set had the Falcons and Crusaders tied at 24 a piece when Alyssa Vorbeck and Kristen Douglas both delivered kills to give the Falcons the fourth set victory and tie the match score at two a piece.
 
Messiah jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the fifth set with kills from Brooke Gallagher, Hannah Baumer, and Taylor Hook. The Falcons held on to their lead and led 14-11 when a powerful kill from Jane Underman gave the Falcons the set and come from behind match victory.
 
Kristen Douglas led the Falcons offensively and defensively for the second match in a row with 18 kills and 25 digs.
