Carlisle, PA -
Gillian Glackin and
Jen Fairbanks combined for 35 points and 21 rebounds to lead Messiah College to a convincing 69-34 win over Dickinson on Wednesday night. The Falcons raced out to a 14-3 early lead and led by double-digits for most of the night.
"We were relentless tonight," Messiah head coach
Mike Miller said. "I'm really proud of our girls because they played with as good of energy as we've seen this season, and it came from every person on the team."
Forward Glackin and Fairbanks combined for 10 of the team's first 15 points as the Falcons went up 15-6 at the 9:15 mark of the second half. After
Hannah Nichols finished in the paint to make it 17-6, Glackin and Fairbanks combined for another eight points, six from the free-throw line. That put Messiah up 25-10, and they never looked back.
The Falcons eventually led 36-14 at the half, with Glackin's three-point play giving them their advantage in the final minute.
At the start of the second-half it was more of the same, as Fairbanks finished a layup and hit a jumper for four quick points. Glackin soon followed with three free-throws across two separate possessions, and then
Deanna Eyerkuss drilled a shot from beyond the arc for a 48-18 lead.
From that point forward the Falcons never led by less than 30 points, and they went up by as many as 40 points (61-21) on a jumper by
Dominique Seamon with 7:15 remaining.
"We handled the ball better in the second-half compared to the first, and we continued to hit free-throws," Miller said, commenting on his team's strong play. "We were aggressive, and also patient."
Glackin finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds, with Fairbanks totaling 13 points and eight boards. Nichols finished with eight points and three assists, while
Sienna Wisse, Eyerkuss, and Kaitlin Hoff combined for another 20 points.
"There are some things we still need to work on, but this is a good place to be," Miller said. "We have a chance to get better now for a week, and this is a good feeling for us heading into this part of the season."
Now 5-4, the Falcons will be off until Dec. 19 when they will play two games in St. Pete, Fla. They will first oppose Carthage College at 3:00 p.m., and then will play Berry College on Dec. 20 at 12:00 p.m.
